Tuesday

Author Note: I wrote this when I was 11-12, the writing is a little inconsistent.

It was that one Tuesday evening, in the middle of a big farm field, Mississippi, there was a pond full of… frogs.

A turtle began to float and climb onto a log, but he lost grip and fell into the water, as the school of fish watched every single movement of the turtle. Not this time… he thought to himself. I just have to try again, and so he did. He cautiously climbed as a group of insects carried on muttering amongst themselves. The turtle eventually made it to the top and watched down to the pond below him. The frogs began to croak due to frustration.

They were all sick and tired of their very boring existence. Every single evening, without fail, the frogs settled on their lily pads, in that murky, overcrowded pond.

As usual, the biggest frog at the front would cry out,

“Good night everyone. I hope you have the most amazing night ever!”

“Good night to you Master,” the rest of the frogs echoed with dissatisfaction.

By now the lustrous, silvery moon rose up to the sky. The mauve night sky had now turned into a beautiful shade of indigo. It was a stunning view to see. All the frogs gazed up at the moon and saw the clouds concealing its beauty.

As the sunset faded to twilight, one mother frog was sleeping so her children started a quick conversation before they started dozing off themselves.

“I'm so bored of living in the pond, I wish that we could escape this pond and live somewhere else with our family,” one frog muttered to his younger sister.

“No way!” His sister snapped back as she heard that comment, “how are we supposed to leave if we are surrounded by tall, green plants?! Even if we were a quarter of the way through the journey, some rodent would kill us all, and then it's all over for the whole pond!”

“We easily jump over the rodents and reeds. Oh wait, there's dogs everywhere, so we will die after all. I wish we could fly up high in the sky and escape our miserable lives in this pond.”

As soon as the conversation concluded, the frog at the front became agitated that there was something under his lilypad pushing it upwards. He looked down and there was nothing in plain sight apart from the dull pond and the other frogs gazing at him with a face that resembled fear and cluelessness.

All of a sudden, the frog started panicking as he had never flown before. He also felt that he was dreaming but it looked too real to be a dream. Soon after, the frog gained control of the lily pad as the other frogs began to float.

The school of fish began to applaud the group of frogs for learning to float. They started to fly to a house where there was a man having his dinner, which was a ham sandwich that was smothered with mayonnaise. That looks tasty… thought one of the frogs. When one of the frogs knocked on the window, the man immediately turned around, he couldn’t see anyone or anything at all - not even a single soul. The frogs went to the other window and grinned. The frogs were sneering when they were taunting the man.

They flew to a garden and they accidentally flew into the clothes from the washing line and their vision was tackled, and one of the frogs had lost their lily pad and said:

“Oh hello there! I’m jumping on you!”

“Are you kidding?! What on earth are you doing?!” was the reply.

They entered another house, they went through the chimney and a cat shrieked when the frogs came in contact with it. When they had made their way in, one of the frogs glanced at the alarm clock ,which had just been polished recently, and made a silly face. Later they found a TV remote and one of the frogs used their sticky, slimy tongue to change the channels. They found a TV programme to laugh at, although there was an elderly lady dozing off so they had to be very quiet. When they left the mammoth-sized house (according to the frogs), there was a ferocious dog chasing them until they ended up chasing the dogs themselves.

At four thirty-eight a.m, -when the skies were a rosy shade of pink, and when the luminous sun was rising in the distant horizon- They were still flying and the magic of flying lily pads eventually had stopped working, and they instantly shot down to the ground. The group of frogs instantly hopped back to the nearest pond until they realised that they've reached their boring pond.

At eight forty-eight a.m., there were dozens of lily pads discarded across the road -as well as the pavement - and there were detectives finding out what happened. The dog that was chasing them barked at the lily pads since he had recognised them.

The lady woke up and saw something odd on the remote.

“What’s that thing on the remote?” the lady questioned herself.

The man, who was eating his dinner, reported that something was knocking on his window.

“I heard something strange knocking on my window and when I looked, no one was there so I looked out and there was nothing - not even a rock,” said the man.

I really wonder who knocked on my kitchen window, the man mentioned to himself in his head.

The frogs were instantly bored as soon as they returned to the pond. They were upset that they couldn't fly anymore, however they will remember their journey which was also a miracle. “I guess that we will stay in this boring pond,” said the commander of frogs.

The next Tuesday evening, there were flying pigs scattered across the sapphire sky as the frogs looked up, wishing that this miraculous journey could happen again on another Tuesday evening.…
