Celestilune
Author Note: I had no idea what to call this....
Here, frozen in time, Selene stood motionless with a downcast expression on her tear stained face, looking down with sheer disbelief mingled with shock and horror at the carnage of the conflict that this unnecessary war brought about. Gazing down, at the once picturesque, thriving and bustling villages, where now only the ashen carcasses and debris can be seen.
Embers escaped from the fires, like fish jumping out of a burning pond. It contrasted how it was before the war. Despite all the agony Selene just experienced, she laughed. Laughed at how an argument with her husband led to this. Laughed at how quickly the two villages were destroyed. But this was no laugh of humour; it was a laugh of insanity.
That was the final straw. Tears trickled down her soot filled face, as she bent down and stared at her now unfamiliar reflection, in the darkened pond. Her gaunt eyes widened, as she stared back at herself. Her shoulders shook with hysterical laughter and tears. Her once beautifully red painted lips, now cracked and bled.
Through the flames, stood an awfully familiar figure. Lucian. Her husband. Selene was unsure of the situation she was in. She was unsure whether to love or hate him. Her eyes sparkled at the bittersweet memory forever engraved in her mind, “You’re my partner in crime, remember?”
Partners in crime. That phrase made her laugh hysterically. Before she could react, a familiar warmth enclosed her.
“Lucian?”
“Yes, Lennie, it’s me.”
Lennie. That nickname brought the sparkles back into her faded violet eyes. She smiled, after what felt like an eternity of pain and suffering.
“There she is, my beautiful Selene, there's the Lady of Aurelis.”
“Be quiet, Starfall resident.” Selene joked back at him.
The two continued joking, until their dull eyes regained the sparkles in them. Northern Lights weaved across the navy sky as lanterns were lit for each loss the two villages faced.
